Borja de Riquer i Permanyer (Barcelona, ​​1945) is a Professor of Contemporary History at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and specialist in nineteenth-century history, political Catalanism and francoism. He collaborated in the series Història de Catalunya, directed by Pierre Vilar, and has directed various collective works like Història. Política, Societat i Cultura dels Països Catalans. Among his books we point out Lliga Regionalista: Catalan bourgeoisie and nationalism (1898-1904); L'ultima Cambó (1936-1947); Identitats contemporànies: Catalunya i Espanya and Francesc Cambó (1930-1932). Also worthy of mention is «Escolta Espanya». La cuestión catalana en la época liberal and La dictadura de Franco. In Anar de debò he presents the main topic of historiographic and political debate in present-day of Catalonia. In 2018 he edited the collective work Història Mundial de Catalunya (Edicions 62), a publishing success with more than 30.000 copies sold which was continued in Vides catalanes que han fet història (Edicions 62, 2020) where Riquer reviews more than 2.000 years of Catalan history through the most relevant characters.


He has been distinguished as "Renowned Researcher" by the Generalitat de Catalunya and with the Medal of Honor of the UAB. And in 2017 with the highest recognition of the Catalan Government, Creu Sant Jordi, 2017.
